A new mother dies after taking cocaine on the first night after her baby’s birth
A new mother died after taking cocaine on her first night after giving birth, a UK court has heard.
Becky Tollan, 23, died on July 15, 2019, at a home in Lanarkshire, Scotland, after partying with her sister and two men they met at a local pub.
The men, Barry McAuley, 40, and Martin Stewart, 34, have been charged with culpable homicide after allegedly supplying Tollan with the class A drug.
The duo’s trial began Wednesday when Tollan’s sister, Pamela Tollan, took the stand to remember the brunette’s tragic death.
“Becky started shaking,” an emotional Pamela told the court, according to the report Mirror. “I just thought he was cool to begin with. I said: what is happening with him? I was shouting. “Becky! Becky! “

Pamela explained that she and Tolan went out to a bar on the evening of July 14 as the new mom was excited about her first social event since giving birth to a baby boy just weeks earlier.

The pair were sitting alone at a table when two drinks arrived, allegedly ordered by Macaulay and Stewart.
The women then went to chat with the two men and soon started drinking with them. Pamela told the court Tolan then asked the men if they had any “stuff”.
“I knew exactly what he meant … asking if they had cocaine,” said the devastated sister.
One of the men allegedly produced a “small bag” of the drug before Tollan disappeared into the bathroom to allegedly take it. The group later moved to a home in the area, where the new mother allegedly consumed more cocaine.
“Becky was her own person. No matter how much you told him, he wouldn’t listen,” said Pamela. “I told him. “You don’t need that… you’re having a good time.” I told him to stop because you don’t need it.”

After spending time at home, Pamela and Tollan were about to leave when the new mom suddenly started shaking and settling down.
Stewart, one of those accused of supplying the cocaine, allegedly asked Pamela if Tollan had “epilepsy.”
“I said no. He put him in the recovery position,” Pamela recalled, claiming Tollan was “constantly” adjusting and bleeding from his mouth after biting his tongue.
Emergency crews were called to the home but were unable to save the new mother, who was pronounced dead on July 15.

Pamela told the court that she gave up drugs and alcohol during her sister’s pregnancy and that her body could have been stressed during the first night after giving birth.
McAuley and Stewart have both pleaded not guilty to culpable homicide charges. The trial continues.
