Become an affiliate to win interviews with big names
So you want to interview a guru in your field.
You know that interviewing this person will be good for your business. For your trust.
The problem is, their normal hourly rate is way up in the stratosphere. You can get a private golf lesson with Tiger woods for less.
So how do you get these guys on board?
Well, one of the strategies that allowed me to get interviews with marketing and copywriting leaders like John Carlton, Ted Nicholas, and Alex Mendocian is to tell these guys I want to become a partner.
Now don’t get me wrong. I didn’t blindly approach these guys with this offer. I actually used a PR person to make the contact.
But what I did do was sweeten the deal a bit for the experts. One look at my web site would have told these guys that I could help promote them. But by signing up as a partner in their sales machine, I gave them one more reason to interview me.
Yes, they helped me. But now, in real terms, they were helping themselves if my database decided to buy what they were offering.
As an affiliate, I helped promote Ted Nicholas’ membership site. For Alex Mendocian, I promoted his secrets on teleseminars. And for John Carlton, I included his Copywriting Secrets product line.
In any case, they knew I had a vested interest in their products doing well. If I made money, they made money.
So they helped me.
I think the best thing you can do if you want to catch “big fish” is to tell these guys, “I want to sell for you; I want to become a salesperson.” Then fill in their partner information.
If they don’t have an affiliate site, say, “I really like what you do and would like to help promote and sell your products and services.”
Why would they say no to that? The answer is they wouldn’t.
So go out and offer to feature someone’s product.
You might just find that you end up with a highly marketable interview that you can use to promote your business as a result.
