If you’ve gone through or are thinking of trying the Master Cleanse diet, you’ve probably heard that day 3 can be the hardest. Now for some it is day 2 or even day 4. Some even experience day 1 as the hardest, but what makes day 3 of the master cleanse so difficult?

To begin with, the third day of the basic cleansing diet involves many biological changes that occur to the body. This is often the day when people have the hardest time detoxing and their bodies begin to feel the real addiction to the many toxic substances we eat daily. It’s almost like someone going through severe drug withdrawal because it’s something that happens. Don’t be afraid. The third day of the main cleanse is the hardest day you will have on this detox diet, also known as the main cleanse fast. Below are tips on how to get through the first few days of the cleanse and more specifically the third.

1. If you haven’t read about the master cleanse or received a master cleanse guide, then day three can be shocking. Keep in mind that the more you know about this detox diet, the fewer surprises you will encounter during it. Make sure you do everything right and stay calm.

2. Want to make hunger disappear? Rent movies or pick up a good book. It was the easiest way to distract myself during the major cleanse and heavy detox. The more you can just relax and enjoy the peace, the better and more comfortable you will feel. This is similar to what people go through when they try to quit smoking. You are experiencing something of a withdrawal symptom from additives, preservatives, and addictive food junk.

3. Keep in mind that after the third day it will be almost a piece of cake until the finish. During the main cleansing fast, it usually only takes 3 days from day one to feel amazing. So remember there is a hump and right over that hump is achievement and greatness. Everyone I’ve talked to about it insists (myself included) that everything changed for the better after the third day. So if you’ve made it this far, it’s all downhill.

4. Save a good portion of your mix for the evening. Most of us tend to eat the most at night. Although this is not so healthy, our body is used to it. So if you’re having trouble purging, take a break and drink more of your blend in the evening.

5. Are you using enough cayenne pepper in your main cleaning recipe? Cayenne pepper is commonly used to help suppress the appetite. A chemical in peppers called capsaicin has been known for years to help people lose weight and control appetite. If you are not using enough as the basic cleanse diet suggests, then you may be making the cleanse much more difficult for yourself.

6. Make sure you drink your smooth tea and also your herbal mint tea in the evening. They help switch the cleanse and support the flushing process of the main cleansing diet.

7. The more you exercise without overdoing it, the better off you’ll be by the end of Day 3 of the Basic Cleanse Diet. Personally, I would try to stay away from exercise as your body goes through enough adjustments, but things like watching movies, reading, fishing, even a light walk in the park are great ways to keep your mind off detox.
