How to have a contract with your audio interview subject

How to have a contract with your audio interview subject

I have found that the easiest way to get your interviewee to agree is to get an agreement over the phone. There’s a contract and it’s called a Record Release Form where somebody signs the release form that gives you the right to the interview and you can have a contract and I’m sure if you google it.

I’m just getting a verbal agreement. You know, like I said, it’s understandable that if I’m interviewing an expert, they’re in it for free promotion, potential product sales if I’m an affiliate. Of course I will distribute the interview and that I have the rights to do so.

But what you can do if you’re worried about that, before your big interview, right before you’re ready to do the interview, I would say, “Hey, okay, here’s what we’re going to do, I’m recording now, and you know I’m recording this call and that you agree that we will do an interview and that I have every right to do whatever I want with the interview. I can sell it, I might want to create packages down the road, and I want to be able to put it on my site and other sites and promote you. Are you OK? Are you OK?”

So why would they say no? They’ll say, yes, that’s good. You have this on record, so you have a contract, a verbal contract. I don’t know how solid it is if they ever chased you or wanted you to stop doing it. I think if they want you to take the interview down or stop using it, you just stop doing it. I’ve never had a problem with it in all the years I’ve been doing it.

I started recording a release, but I think contracts scare people away and it was more of a hindrance, so I don’t do them anymore. It’s an understandable, implied consent, and then I’ll back it up to the audio interview captain in voice that we have consent to what we’re doing.
