How will the results of the DV Lottery be announced?
The DV Lottery result is announced annually by the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) only. No other organization or company is authorized to declare the results of the selected people in the DV lottery program.
KCC selects winners through a computer that randomly selects the program for the fiscal year. Earlier they used to announce DV lottery results by regular mail between the months of May and July every year. During the fiscal year 2010 program, they piloted a program that allowed applicants to check results online through their online website. This helped all the candidates to know whether they are selected for further processing or not.
They continued with mail-in winning notifications for selected winners and the ability to check status online for the fiscal year 2011 program.
Finding that the online status check tool was successful in announcing the selected winners, the State Department decided to eliminate the mail-out process of win notifications during the 2012 DV program. All DV 2012 applicants were required to retain their confirmation number , after submitting their entries during the Entry Submission Period. Candidates will be allowed to check their status on the official website with the confirmation number and other personal details. It has been decided that the DV Lottery Results 2012 will not be sent individually to the selected candidates. Winners will not receive any notification by mail, email, fax or telephone. If someone receives a winning notification in any of these ways, it may be fake.
The DV Lottery Results Process
Every year, once the electronic submission of entries is over, the official website will stop accepting entries for that particular fiscal year. Computers will begin randomly selecting winners from valid entries by region.
Each entry will be given a case number for the fiscal year and geographic region of the applicant’s home country. If an applicant from Nigeria is selected for the 2011 programme, their DV 2011 case number will be 2011AF0000xxx12345. All selected individuals are informed that they should not proceed with the Green Card Lottery Program if they do not have the necessary education/work experience which are the basic eligibility requirements. Also make sure you keep your confirmation number as there is no other way to check the results.
Another aspect to keep in mind is that being selected for the program will not immediately grant the applicant the US government immigrant visa. Being selected only gives them a chance to apply for an immigrant visa by paying the required immigrant visa fees and diversity visa processing fees. The total fee will approximately be $819 for an individual. Other eligible family members must also pay the same visa fees for each of them, whether they join the main applicant for the US or not. Visa fees will not be refunded if the visa is refused for any reason.
The applicable visa fees must be paid ONLY at the US Embassy or Consulate on the date of the interview. Remember not to send the fees by bank transfer or through another organization.
The DV 2012 application form requires the applicant’s email address. Although KCC will not email the winner selection, in the future, after winning the Green Card Lottery, those selected will be contacted via their email addresses for further communication while their case is being processed.
