I am a dentist and these four signs can indicate oral cancer
A dentist has gone viral on TikTok by explaining four different warning signs of oral cancer that people should look out for.
dr. Vikas Prinja posted a video Wednesday and has received more than 90,000 views.
“Mouth cancer rates are on the rise and it has a poor survival rate because it is detected so late,” says Prinja in the video.
An estimated 54,000 people in the US will be diagnosed with oral cancer in 2022, according to a report produced by the American Cancer Society.
The report shows that men are more likely to develop and die from oral cancer if left untreated. CDC stated that about half of the people diagnosed with oral cavity cancer will survive.
Prinja said there are four signs to look out for that could help save your life:
- A non-healing ulcer
- Numbness and tingling of the lips, chin or tongue
- White or red spots on the inside of the mouth
- Inexplicably loose teeth
Several commentators were left speechless by this revelation.
“I was wondering why my dentist started doing checkups last year that he never did before, I’m glad they do,” said one user.
“Is this something the dentists will check for during regular cleanings,” asked another.
“[G]Regular visits to the dentist for check-ups help,” added the third.
Other users panicked because of the video.
“Dude, I get an ulcer every other week. I don’t need those thoughts in my head,” said one person.
“New fear unlocked,” said another.
