India Visa – Top tips for completing Indian visa applications

To get a visa to India, you will need to fill out a long two-page application online on the Travisa website. The Consulate of India now outsources two different parts of the application process to Travisa.com, which is an established forwarding company. The consulate is still reviewing and approving visa applications.
Travisa handles customer service when applications are submitted and also when the approved visa is picked up. keep in mind you don’t have to pay Travisa to expedite service if you will be applying in person or by regular mail. You only need an expedited visa service if you need your travel documents as quickly as possible.
The Indian consulate can be quite strict in terms of requirements. First, your application must be completed online and submitted electronically. Each field must be filled in with complete accuracy or your application may be delayed or rejected.
Proof of residence
One of the more difficult parts of applying is establishing proof of residency. You will see in the application that it requires both your permanent and current address. If your current address is on your valid driver’s license, use it in the permanent and current address fields.
On the other hand, if you have an old address on your driver’s license, make a copy of your current utility bills that contain your name and address. Sometimes the Indian Embassy delays processing when there are different addresses listed. So if you’re in that boat, definitely include utility bills in addition to a copy of your valid ID.
Your host’s contact details
Provide the name and contact information of the hotel you are staying at on the second page of the application where it asks for a contact name. Unless you’re staying with someone you know.
If so, include their full contact information. Consulate of India will not process the visa if this field is left blank.
Choose the right visa type
Also, make sure you choose the correct visa type and duration of validity. There are different prices depending on the visa you are applying for. So you don’t want to pay more for a visa that is valid for a long period of time if you are only going for a short trip.
After you submit your information electronically, you still need to print a hard copy. Place your signature at the bottom of the second page and review the information on both pages.
Be very careful when stapling your photo to the application. If the stapler goes into the part of the photo where your face is, then the Indian embassy may ask for a new photo.
If everything looks good, then you are ready to complete the rest of the Indian visa requirements.
