Myanmar Business Visa Application Procedures

Since the lifting of sanctions that isolated Myanmar (formerly Burma) from the rest of the world, there has been an influx of tourists and foreign business travelers looking for investment opportunities in the country.

As the number of visitors grows, Myanmar authorities are considering granting permanent residence visas to certain categories of foreign entrepreneurs in the country. Currently, the business visa for Myanmar is valid for up to 70 days. The holder can leave or apply for an extension, which is valid for up to 12 months after the visa expires. However, this depends on the holder’s circumstances and is considered on a case-by-case basis.

Myanmar Business Visa Application

All persons visiting Myanmar must have a passport valid for more than six months. An entry visa is also required. To apply for a Myanmar business visa, you must have the following:

· Completed visa application form

· Passport valid for more than six months

· Two color passport photos with a white background

· Copies of airline tickets/flight itinerary

· RMB 300 fee (payable in cash)

· An invitation letter from a Myanmar company and a letter of recommendation from your employer describing your occupation, reasons for visiting and dates of arrival and departure.

To facilitate the process of applying for a visa and obtaining a visa sticker in your passport, the Myanmar Immigration Department allows online processing of business visa applications and issues a pre-arranged visa to business persons and conference participants on arrival. Valid for 70 days, these visas are available to travelers from 27 countries and cost $50. They are not accessible to tourists.

Visa requirements on arrival

On arrival in Myanmar, you are required to complete a visa-on-arrival application form, which can be downloaded from the country’s Immigration Department website or obtained from airlines at the airport.

You must bring two recent 4cm x 6cm color photographs of you together with a valid passport that has not expired for at least six months from the date of your arrival. Also bring a letter of invitation from the sponsoring company, copies of company registration or provide proof of business authorization from relevant authorities or business license.

Applicants must provide the full name of the business premises, location, sponsor and business position. If applying for a business visa extension, the applicant must have a letter of recommendation from the relevant ministries. If you are applying for a transit visa, you must show the plane ticket to your destination. The name and address of your hotel accommodation in Myanmar must be mentioned and must be in facilities that are legally licensed by the government.

All visa applicants must agree to the decisions of the Visa Screening and Issuing Team. Applicants are also required to comply with the laws, procedures, directives and orders of the Government of Myanmar. Permission must be obtained before traveling to restricted areas in the country. Visas for children under the age of seven are issued free of charge, although proof of relationship with parents must be provided for children holding separate passports.
