New York Internships for High School Students Interested in Politics

Hello!

This article presents opportunities that the politically minded may enjoy, but excludes internships for elected officials. However, if you are interested in this type of internship, visit teensinpolitics.org for more information. Let’s start!

For history buffs:
New York Historical Society Student Historians Program

As someone who has completed this internship, I unequivocally endorse this internship. Unlike other internship programs, the N-YHS program is specifically dedicated to furthering the education of its participants rather than assigning them mundane tasks. If you are interested in learning more about history, improving your research skills and meeting other like-minded students, this internship is for you.

For the Aspiring Lawyer:
1. New York County District Attorney High School Internship Program

The New York District Attorney’s Office program is a six-week internship program that provides high school students with an opportunity to witness the inner workings of the judicial system. One of the great benefits of this program is that interns are paid a weekly stipend of $150. Teenagers interested in pursuing a career in public sector law will enjoy this experience.

2. Bronx County District Attorney’s Office Internship Program

Similar to the New York District Attorney’s program. High school students interning during the school year must intern at least two half days per week. High school students doing summer internships will be required to work Monday through Thursday from 9 to 4.

3. Thurgood Marshall Summer Law Program

The Thurgood Marshall Program places motivated inner-city students in law firms for the summer. If you’re a teenager looking for a policy-related law internship, this internship is for you!

4. The Camp of Future Latin American Leaders of the Spanish National Bar Foundation

The HNPBF camp sends Latin American students to Washington for nine days at no cost to participants. Students can be current high school students or graduates.

For the future law enforcement officer:
1. FBI Volunteer Internship Program

The FBI Volunteer Program allows high school students to explore life at the Bureau as well as future career opportunities in federal law enforcement. If you are a fan of NCIS or CSI, this internship experience will be a great experience for you!

2. NYPD investigators

The NYPD’s Law Enforcement Scholars Program provides an opportunity for young men and women between the ages of 14 and 20 to work with members of their local police department. This program is part of the NYPD’s efforts to foster better relations with citizens.
