Reality sinks in on Twitter India staff as 90% laid off

For many Twitter employees in India, the grim reality of mass shootings is just about “sinking in.”

New Delhi.

Humiliation and uncertainty are the words that describe the situation, said one of the many Twitter India employees who were handed the pink slip on Friday.

Another ex-employee said that the firings were along presumptive lines, or that the microblogging platform itself had erupted in favor of “Tweeple” or outspoken outsiders.

The grim reality of massive layoffs for many Twitter employees in India, which also coincides with a winter of dreaded layoffs, is just sinking in, days after the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, took over the popular platform.

Last month, Musk famously walked into Twitter’s headquarters, holding a ceramic sink, and posted a video on social media: “Entering Twitter HQ. let it sink” with the caption.

A statement from multiple employees on Friday said the affected staff “will continue to work at Twitter and receive compensation and benefits until your separation date, January 4, 2023.”
