Skipping a Day or Cheating on Nutrisystem – Can You Do This and Still Lose Weight? I will tell you

I recently received an email from someone who wanted to start the nutrisystem diet by early next week. However, on Friday of that week, she was starting a weekend where one of her best friends was getting married, and she knew she wouldn’t be able to stick to a strict diet for the few days she was dealing with her wedding duties. Still, she wasn’t about to let this one event stop her from getting started on her weight loss goals. She wanted to know if it was possible to skip a day with nutrisystem (since ketosis is involved) or if that would throw everything off. He wondered if it would be better to just wait until after the wedding to begin. I guess the main question here is whether you can sometimes miss a day on nutrisystem and still be successful. I will address this issue in the next article.

Taking an Accidental Day Off on the Nutrisystem Diet: First, it’s important to understand that there are really two mechanisms at play with this diet. Not only will you lose weight by eating fewer calories, but the goal is also to put your body into ketosis, where it burns through fat because there aren’t as many carbohydrates available for fuel. Diet foods are designed to contain lower amounts of sugars and carbohydrates. So you really won’t have to think too much about this equation. As long as you’re not cheating, this process should work itself out.

And as long as you stay in ketosis, both processes will be working for you at the same time, and you should lose weight at a pretty decent rate. Of course, if you take a day off and eat carbs with wild abandon, then your body will have carbs to burn, not fat, and will take full advantage of that. But that doesn’t really mean all is lost. As long as you get back on track relatively quickly, it only takes a few days to get back into fat-burning mode, and you’ll immediately start eating fewer calories when you start back on the plan.

The company also takes this into account. They even have a program called nutrisystem flex that allows you to take two days a week. Of course, you shouldn’t randomly eat junk food or massive amounts of calories, fat, or carbs on those days off and then expect to get the results you want. What foods you cheat with is far more important than whether or not you cheat. It’s much better to eat a burger than a slice of pie. You bet you’d rather eat chips than candy

If you’re going to take a day off, then just use a little common sense on the day you do. There is nothing to suggest that the woman who sent the email could have made a sensible choice on her weekend off. No one expected her to cook her own food while everyone else was eating at a restaurant, but there was nothing that said she couldn’t order fajitas instead of a huge bowl of pasta. You can join in the fun without having to make the worst choice on the menu.

I felt strongly that this man should go ahead with his plans. This diet has some leeway. Almost everyone cheats from time to time, and I include myself in that phrase. The real key is not to let a day or two derail the whole plan. Because sometimes one day kind of flows into the next, so you connect the dots a week later and realize you never actually went back on the diet. What really matters is that, generally speaking, you’re taking in fewer calories and carbs overall so you can repeatedly enter ketosis. If a few days throw you off track, you really only need a few more days to get back on track and in fat-burning mode.
