The Lenormand Oracle – The Right Way to Handle Lenormand Cards
Before using a new deck of Lenormand Oracle cards, I recommend that you “cleanse” your deck of all energies and help connect it to your own energy. There are various ways you can achieve this. I personally use white sage and diffuse the smoke around a new deck of cards and especially after someone has somehow managed to touch them.
Other ways are to surround the cards around a white candle or use crystals or just hold the pack of cards visualizing white light soaking your cards and cleansing them and last but not least don’t forget to ask your angels, guides and your higher self to provide you with insight and knowledge and output messages that you can interpret.
When you receive a new Lenormand Oracle deck, the cards will be arranged in order from 1 to 36. The first thing you need to do is to thoroughly shuffle the deck. An easy way to do this is to deal the cards randomly into three piles; reassemble the deck; stir it, then repeat the process two or three times. It’s a good idea to shuffle the deck like this after each reading, especially if you’re dealing the cards instead of drawing them. This will ensure that the series of cards are separated between each reading.
Two of the “people” cards have special meaning. The gentleman and lady represent the querent, the male or female person, respectively, for whom the oracle is consulted. These cards can also be used to represent the problem or question of the questioner in some layouts; for example, the card most associated with the question can be used – the Heart for a love question, the Ship for travel and the Fish for money, etc. Card to open a door.”
If your layout requires a significator positioned in a specific location then decide which card to use as a significator and remove it from the deck and place it in front of you, usually this card will be placed in the center of the spread.
Now it’s time to shuffle the cards before spreading the layout. Either shuffle the cards (but without using the card player’s shotgun shuffle) or spread them face down on the table and shuffle them. While shuffling the cards, concentrate on the questioner or the question of the questioner. Don’t rush this shuffle, it’s time to handle the cards and connect with them. Stop mixing when it feels right.
Then cut the cards, either in a single cut or into three piles, which you then reassemble while still focusing on the querent or the querent’s question. If you use a significator, be sure to place it in the center of the table. You can now either deal cards or draw cards to shape your layout. Personally, I tend to draw cards for small layouts, but I deal the cards for the full 36 card layouts.
To draw cards, take the deck and spread it so that the cards slightly overlap face down in a ribbon or fan across the table. Draw cards one at a time as required from the fan with your left hand (the hand closest to the heart). Let your intuition guide you in your card draw – choose the card that “feels right”.
If you are dealing the cards, you can place them face up or face down in the appropriate place in your layout. If you draw cards, you must keep them face down until the layout is complete. This is to prevent any emotion, positive or negative, that you may experience when you see a card from affecting subsequent draws.
Once the layout is complete, turn the cards face up, ready to start reading!
