Xi Jinping urges China’s military to focus on war preparations | World news
Chinese President Xi Jinping has told the People’s Liberation Army to “focus all energy on fighting” as it prepares for war, a Chinese Communist Party spokesman said in a statement.
With pictures of Xi Jinping in military uniform during a visit to the command center, the People’s Daily reported that Xi Jinping said the army should “comprehensively strengthen military readiness to prepare for war.”
Xi Jinping had earlier warned of “dangerous storms” on the horizon at the Communist Party Congress.
“Focus on everyone [your] energy on fighting, work hard on fighting and improve [your] ability to win,” Xi Jinping was quoted as saying. The military must also “resolutely defend national sovereignty and national security” as China was in a “volatile and uncertain” security situation, he said.
Xi Jinping also issued a similar order in 2013, shortly after taking power, and again in 2017.
At a Communist Party meeting, Xi Jinping launched a veiled attack on growing US support for Taiwan, blaming “foreign interference” for escalating tensions. Xi Jinping, who sees the conquest of Taiwan as a key part of his legacy, later said: “We will never promise to abandon the use of force.”
